What you will be doing:

To facilitate the smooth and controlled transition of new or enhanced IT Service capabilities into operational IT service support via a clear and consistent ITIL based transition governance and quality assurance framework, with little to no impact to existing services. Evolving beyond a gatekeeper function and establishing IT service design and transition activities as an integral part of the IT delivery lifecycle for flawless service introduction.

A key part of the role is supporting the Service Design function by contributing to risk identification, assurance, and mitigation activities associated with transitioning IT services into BAU support. The role also contributes to continual service improvement and supports enhancements to ITIL-based service design processes.

Key Activities

  • Service Transition & Assurance - Co-ordinates an end to end Service Transition process, which includes, but not limited to, ensuring; new and changed IT Services have a fully developed operating model incorporating an agreed model of interaction with business users & IT support partners, relevant configuration of ITIL service support Processes, contract commercialization with SLAs/KPIs, resources, support models, DR, business continuity and completion of knowledge transfer before going into the production landscape. Follows standard techniques to work with the Service Design Architect, who will design and agree a tailored transition journey, balancing the IT delivery outcomes and ensure the nature and impact of change delivery into operational support activities is controlled and agreed with no or little impact to existing IT Services.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement - Build strong relationships across BAU Service support, IT Project Delivery, Ecosystem Operations and Architecture teams to ensure alignment of service support requirements. Provide guidance and clarification to project and operational teams on service transition best practices, service readiness, and ITIL-aligned service support expectations.
  • Continual Service Improvement (CSIP) - Is a significant contributor to the IT Service Transition process design authority as part of continuous improvement activities with an inherent understanding of the ITIL disciplines significantly utilised to support transition activities such as Change, Configuration & Release management and encourages strong performance and adherence to an ethos of services excellence and continual improvement with business outcomes as a priority with all transition actors. Identify opportunities to enhance service transition processes, artefact standards, and support model frameworks.
  • Service Transition, Risk Management & Readiness - Uses standard IT Service Transition Risk Management techniques, where appropriate, to agree warranty items with stakeholders to support delivery and balance the protection of live services. Actively engages with stakeholders to promote awareness and compliance with service transition quality plans and processes. Agrees the service acceptance criteria with delivery teams.
  • Project Delivery Engagement - Work collaboratively with project managers, business analysts, and delivery teams to embed service support considerations early in the project lifecycle (“shift-left”). Support service readiness and operational acceptance processes, ensuring all required documentation, training, and support models are complete ahead of go-live.

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, and / or a related field or equivalent experience of Service Management
  • ITIL Foundation certification required; higher-level ITIL certifications preferred.
  • 3–5+ years of experience in IT service management, service transition.
  • Strong understanding of ITIL best practices for service design, transition, and operational readiness.
  • Experience working within IT project delivery environments, ideally in complex and multi-vendor settings.
  • Strong attention to detail and experience conducting assurance reviews of service artefacts.
  • Is familiar and competent in Service Management tooling, such as ServiceNow, and IT Management tools as part of transition into support.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging across multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Proven ability to analyse service risks, dependencies, and impacts and participate in effective mitigation planning.
  • Knowledge or experience of IT operations domains (infrastructure, networking, security) is advantageous.

To work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines Business an individual has to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if the individual does not currently already have this in place.

Due to the nature of work the Business conducts and the protection of certain assets a person has to be a UK national or in MoD approved cases a Dual National from a non ITAR country.
